Silver Cranks

Overall: Our own designs, and the cranks we put on 98 percent of the complete Rivendells. The SILVER crank is smart and exceptionally nice looking, and has the design features we sought but couldn't quite find in any other. And it passes the most rigorous testing, and is good for up to 10 speed drivetrains.

BEST MATERIALS. There are two common aluminum alloys used in cranks: 6061 T6 and 7075 T6.  Those are technical metal designations and you can google them and compare, but in all of our cranks, go with the winner, and it ends up a mix. Nuances in the crank design can favor the "technically weaker" of the two, so that it is actually stronger in use. We've got you covered, don't worry about it, but also don't be impressed by any maker boasting about its crank having one or the other.

BEST MANUFACTURING METHOD. The SILVER crank is cold-forged. It's more expensive, but imparts a grain to the metal in a way that casting and machining doesn't. Nobody really casts cranks anymore (they used to); and some fine cranks are machined. Small crank makers can't afford to invest in forging dies.

Our SILVER cranks are compatible with JIS taper bottom brackets, which are most of them, and the chainline is about 47 with a 110mm Shimano BB, and 50mm with a 113. The Q-Factor with a 107mm BB is 154mm.

On road bikes with straight (normal) chain stays, mount it on a 107-110mm square taper BB (JIS). If your bike has bowed-out chain stays like most mountain bikes, it might need a 113mm.  

On our bikes, we recommend using a 113mm BB with the Skeleton Key Front Derailer.

The chainrings are compatible with 6-7-8-9-10 speed drive trains.
